About the hotel
In 1873, the Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo - Taormina's first hotel - Completely unique, its exceptional position takes advantage of the spectacular scenery of Taormina - the sunlit Bay of Naxos, the majestic volcanic Mount Etna and the Greco-Roman amphitheater. It is serenely immersed in a centuries-old park of cypresses and magnolias. At the end of the 19th century, it became the favorite destination of reigning monarchs, aristocrats, politicians, illustrious scholars and famous artists. The warm hospitality has its roots in the noble traditions of Sicily and you will be welcomed as an honored guest.
Hidden in a tranquil private park full of cypresses and magnolias just below the ancient Greek amphitheater, the Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo opened in 1873 and has hosted everyone from King Umberto II to Liz Taylor and Richard Burton, and, more recently, the likes of Robert De Niro and Robert Redford. Old-world elegance and Victorian antiques combine with contemporary conveniences to create a welcoming and comfortable environment. A splash of Baroque mixes with an old-world Mediterranean flavor in the lobby, with wooden floors, tile, brickwork, and vaulted ceilings. Wrought iron and wicker chairs surround marble tables in the bar and on the adjoining palatial patio, the famous "Literary Terrace" (where drinks are also served). All of the guest rooms are spacious and luxuriously furnished, with crisp Italian linens and large marble bathrooms.
Framed by the most beautiful and evocative terrace in Taormina - seemingly suspended between the sea and the sky - the hotel's excellent restaurant Il Dito e la Luna offers all that is refined and genuine in Sicilian and Mediterranean cuisine. Its magic atmosphere and the breathtaking view, wrapped in an ancient silence where time seems to be standing still, make it an exclusive and romantic oasis of serenity.
A shuttle-service is available to take you to the splendid private beach at the nearby Hotel Villa Sant'Andrea (which also now belongs to Orient-Express Hotels), where you will have use of complimentary cabanas, beach umbrellas, showers and towels.
RESTAURANT & BAR
Restaurant ‘Il Dito E La Luna’ has gained an excellent reputation for its fine Sicilian cuisine and attentive service. Alternatively Restaurant ‘Oliviero’, offers fresh fish specialities, and is a delightful setting for a romantic dinner.
RELAX
The lounges and glass ‘sun rooms’ are light and airy, opening out onto the terraces, where guests can relax on warm summer evenings and listen to music from the Piano Bar.

The 44 guestrooms and 26 suites are located in either the main building, or in the charming annexe ‘Villa Flora’, a former country house just 50m from the main hotel.
MAIN HOTEL:
Double Deluxe: these rooms, with typical Sicilian cotto tile floors, feature either a king-size bed or twin beds. Bathrooms with either a bathtub or separate shower. Palcony or terrace with view over the beautiful bay of Naxos. Only 4 rooms are connected.
VILLA FLORA (annexe):
Double Classic: double room with a view over the attractive courtyard. It features a king-size bed or twin beds and some have balcony. Bathrooms have either a bathtub or separate shower. Connecting rooms on request.
Double Superior: double room featuring either a king-size bed or twin beds. Each boasts a private terrace equipped with table and chairs, facind the view over the Bay of Naxos. All bathrooms have a bathtub. No connecting rooms.
Gallery room: set over two levels, with a setting area on the ground floor and a bedroom on the upper level. The rooms have sea view or village view, some with a French balcony. All rooms feature two bathrooms, one with bathtub and the other with shower. King-size bed or twin beds available. No connecting rooms.
