Visit the picturesque Tuscan hill towns of Siena and San Gimignano on this full-day private excursion departing from Florence.
Departing from and returning to Florence, this full day excursion begins with a visit to the picturesque village of San Gimignano, famous for the 13th century towers that stand as a testament to its medieval prosperity and the wealth of its merchants.
Afterwards, you will drive through the gorgeous Tuscan countryside to Siena. In this cradle of the Italian Gothic style, your expert, private guide will introduce you to the artistic marvels of the historic center with an hour and a half tour. See the spectacular Duomo and baptistery, both of which beautifully symbolize the devout religious nature of the Sienese.
The city's heart is the gracious, shell-shaped main piazza, or Campo, site of the celebrated Palio - this thrilling horserace is run twice each summer, on July 2nd and August 16th. Looming over it is the Palazzo Pubblico (City Hall), a crenellated, medieval building that represents the independence and economic might of the Sienese oligarchy.
Time permitting, the driver will take a slight detour to Monteriggioni, a tiny village surrounded by high walls and 14 square towers. It is one of the finest examples of medieval military architecture in existence.

Quite impressed with our guide in Siena as well as the driver of the van that took us there and to San Gimignano. Their collective knowledge and assistance made this all day tour one of our highlights!
This excursion was a highlight for us. Siena is a beautiful, unique and interesting city not to be missed. The visit to San Gimignano was a bonus. Both the guide and driver were wonderful and very informative.
We didn't want to rent a car in Italy, so took this day excursion to Siena & San Gimignano. Both our driver, and the guide in Siena were great - particularly the woman in Siena. San Gimignano is a smaller, no-car, city which was a fun second stop. If you can afford it, a great trip!
