This enthralling walking tour reveals the secrets of Diocletian's Palace in Split, from the city's most beautiful monuments to the hotspots where the locals go for the best kava (coffee) and a bite to eat. It starts with an overall orientation and introduction to the 1,700 year old Palace of the Emperor Diocletian , now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Cathedral of St. Domnius, claims to be the oldest cathedral in the world; it's believed that the patron saint of Split was guided here by Saint Peter to evangelize Dalmatia. A little further along you will find yourself at the heart of the palace, the Peristil, the largest square in Split. Today the piazza is used as a space for events, and serves as a natural backdrop and stage many musical or dramatic spectacles.
Diocletian's Palace is divided into four quarters, and as you move along, you will explore the picturesque tangle of narrow streets that border each quarter of the old palace walls. Monuments such as sphinxes that the Romans brought back from ancient Egypt and well-preserved Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque palaces give true insight into the city's illustrious past.
