On this half-day tour, stroll through the streets and alleyways of Rome?s city center to marvel at the most famous squares, fountains and palaces produced during the Baroque era.
Hardly anyone has left a stronger imprint on a city than Gianlorenzo Bernini has on Rome; his universal genius permeates the Roman landscape. However, Bernini was by no means the only outstanding artist of the time: his contemporary, Francesco Borromini, vied with him for the title of the most original prodigy of High Baroque architecture.
The artists' temperaments and personalities were quite different. Bernini was successful, self-confident, sociable and affluent, while Borromini was gloomy, solitary, depressed, often irascible and always difficult. Offering the opportunity for a first hand comparison of the works and styles of the two artists, this privately-guided tour will take you to some of the most important and famous monuments in Rome.
From the glorious outdoor theater of Piazza Navona, with the Fountain of the Four Rivers and the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone to the Pantheon Square and the church of St. Ignazio, with its unforgettable ceiling frescoes. The sparkling waters of the Trevi Fountain make a suitably dramatic conclusion to this walking tour to some of the Eternal City's most splendid sites.
