Less than 40 minutes from Siracusa lies the San Calogero farm estate, where your half-day cooking class will take place. The setting is a spa that overlooks a gorgeous garden; nearby, fragrant plants and colorful flowers will lead you to a relaxing saltwater pool surrounded by stone walls. The estate is essentially an oasis of nature's finest, and there is only one rule for a visit to the San Calegro: you must drop all of your worries at the front door and enjoy as you partake in a traditional Sicilian cooking class.
You will learn to make authentic Sicilian dishes in the charming country kitchen of Signora Gabriella Pelli under the expert guidance of the Estate's chef. You will begin your hands-on cooking lesson following a short introduction to the history of Sicilian cuisine, which is the harmonious cooperation of a mix of cultural influences. Greek, Italian, and Spanish ingredients add variety to the dishes that you create, delicious local dishes such as pasta with alici e finocchietto and Sicilian-style pork tenderloins.
The three-hour cooking class will be followed by a meal with the food that you have personally prepared. You will also have the opportunity to take home authentic estate souvenirs such as personalized aprons, bottles of extra virgin olive, orange blossom honey, and Sicilian marmalade.
