Frascati DOC wine is produced in the green hills around Rome in a picturesque area of castles and lakes known as the Castelli Romani . The territory is at the foot of Mount Tuscolo, where ancient Tusculum once stood, and where the town of Frascati now lies.
Departing from and returning to your hotel in Rome, this tour starts with a guided visit to the Azienda Agricola Casale Marchese in Frascati. The estate, first mentioned by Pope Boniface VIII in 1301, is dedicated mainly to specific grape cultivars like Malvasia del Lazio, Cesanese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Situated in the heart of the Frascati DOC zone, its 125 acres overlook one of the most charming landscapes of the Tuscolo hills, where the vineyards are interspersed with ancient olive groves. During the guided visit, you will have the opportunity to try a wide range of wines while seated on the panoramic terrace with a spectacular view that stretches all the way to Rome.
Afterwards, you'll ahead to Frascati for a short guided tour of this town, one of the most important historical and cultural centers in Latium. Lunch at Osteria Zaraza' , a typical Italian trattoria serving local specialties, follows.
The last stop will be at the Azienda Agricola Colle Picchioni where you'll have a guided tour of the cellars and savor some of the best wines of the Lazio region.
