Chianti Nord Wine Tour: Full Day

Chianti Nord Wine Tour: Full Day

  • City: Florence
  • Duration: Approximately 7 hours

Overview

Produced in the undulating hills of the Tuscan countryside between Florence and Siena, the famous Chianti Classico wine is known and celebrated all over the world. Tidy rows of vineyards set amidst historic villages and silvery-green olive trees are the scenic backdrop for this full day wine excursion to Chianti Country.

Departing from and returning to your Florence hotel, first stop is the town of Greve in Chianti with its picturesque, asymmetrical main piazza. It is lined by a succession of palaces, porticoes and loggias with the rebuilt church of Santa Croce at one end, housing beautiful Renaissance paintings from the School of Fra Angelico. At the other end of the piazza stands a statue of the explorer, Giovanni da Verrazzano, who discovered New York Harbor.

After a tour of Greve you'll head to the Casaloste Vineyards, known for their fine Chianti Classico and Riserva wines. A visit to the cellars and a guided wine tasting are included. Next stop will be lunch at the Osteria La Scuderia, a lovely place serving typical Tuscan cuisine.

After lunch you will head either to the Antinori vineyards at Badia di Passignano or to the small castle of Montefioralle depending on availability. Then you'll visit the cellars of the Setriolo estate in Castellina in Chianti to learn how grapes become wine; a guided tasting follows.

I cant express just how much fun my husband and I along with our three friends had in Tuscany. First off - our driver and guide Jacomo was fantastic. He was so accommodating and informative. He brought us to such wonderful places. There was an accident on the road to Greve and so we took a detour to another wonderful little town where i felt as if i was thrust back in time. It was so fun to walk around this charming town and sample the local wares. Then onward to an amazing very personalized experience at the vineyards where we were one on one with the proprietors discussing their wine, the process and enjoying sampling the different vintages while enjoying cheeses and nuts. We didn't want the day to end. It was one amazing experience after another. I cant wait to go back...more than that - i cant wait for my wine shipment!!! Thank you for a wonderful experience and day of a lifetime!!

This was one of the absolute best parts of our honeymoon. We had a very nice and informative guide who took us to the town of Greve, and showed us the different wines, cheese and salami in one of the local stores. He gave us background information on all of the wines there, explaining the different grades of Chianti. Then, he took us to a very young, up and coming winery where the owner showed us a lot about the process and getting a winery started in today's market in the Chianti region. Then, we went to an amazing restaurant in the middle of the most gorgeous scenery that we had ever laid eyes on. Afterwards we went to an older, family-owned winery. Seeing such a wide range of the business and talking to the owners was unforgettable. We learned a ton (especially since the guide helped me with my Italian some). Beyond the wine, he discussed political and economic questions we had about Italy. He even pulled over so we could take some very memorable pictures of the incredible scenery. It was a perfect trip. I know my husband and I will always have a special place in our hearts for Chianti, and we always look for the rooster label!!
