A spectacular Macbeth.

We went to see Bob Wilson's Macbeth in Bologna. It was the most integrated opera I have seen, where set design, lighting, voice, symbolism all were important, to the point that they melded. Wilson's use of a few colors - black, red, blue, white - added so much to the production's meaning. We were a group of 8 and for many, it was their very first opera. A few of them are hooked.

The opera had the most wonderful singers but the concept of a 3D backdrop was irrelevant and distracting.
The opera house gave good views even at the back of the stalls and the seating is very comfortable. I like the need to wear a jacket for the men although a tie is optional.
We booked this show without too much knowledge of the standard likely in this theatre. It turned out truly exceptional with a large and very high standard cast together with imaginative sets. In all an evening to remember.
A night at the opera to remember
Excellent way to obtain tickets on line by Select Italy . Thoroughly enjoyable performance with brilliant sets and costumes . Advice to get to our box early was vital since visibility is limited at the rear

The theater is charming and lovely. I liked well enough the contemporary production of Cinderella, but would have preferred a different approach. I did not know the theater was in the University of Bologna city campus. That location was great also. Loved Bologna. We saw some celebrities in our hotel and that was fun too. We had a good time. Hotel Due Torri was great.
Inaugurated in 1763, Bologna's Teatro Comunale is one of Italy's oldest surviving theatres (second only to Naples' Teatro San Carlo). Not only is it one of the oldest, but the Comunale is also one of the most original, never having needed more than minor restorations. Set in the center of this famous university town, the Teatro Comunale has made important contributions by shaping the attitudes of Bologna while adopting and adapting ideas from abroad. A visit to Teatro Comunale is sure to be a historical and cultural high point of any Bolognese holiday.
