I really enjoyed this show! The Baroque Church of Sant’Onofrio (about 5-8 minutes by foot from the Santa Maria Novella train station) is a really impressive location. The story is delivered as a conversation between the last remaining siblings of the Medici Dynasty. They recount the history of the Medici family and its cultural and artistic contributions to the society. The two actors were great and the show was really informative. I wouldn't recommend it for families with kids as some jokes may be inappropriate for children and since they speak fast it might be hard for kids to follow.
The Medici Dynasty Show is a one-of-a-kind performance which represents 300 years of Florentine history in a unique location: the Baroque Church of Sant'Onofrio, which was built in the early fifteenth century and restored in 1601. The play is set in 1737, when the last siblings of the Medici family - the Grand Duke Gian Gastone and Anna Maria Luisa - recount the story of the Medici dynasty and the turbulent past of the family. In one hour, the show takes you through the Florentine timeline and explains the dynamic of the family and the influence it has had on Firenze.
Tuscan humor and sarcasm set a lighter tone to the representation, playing an important role in the delivery of the cultural message which is at the heart of the Medici Dynasty Show. The venue is walking distance from the Santa Maria Novella train station, and for the occasion, the interior of the church becomes a canvas upon which images of the cities masterpieces are projected, enveloping the audience in the culture and unparalleled beauty of Florence. The exclusive experience, as the size of the church only allows small groups to view the performance, is an interesting and unique occurrence that brings culture, history and entertainment together into one memorable show.
