Brancacci Chapel Tickets, Florence

  • City Florence

Reserve your tickets for Brancacci Chapel where a multimedia video guide in handy tablet format introduces you to Masaccio's world-famous fresco cycle.

The Brancacci Chapel in the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine is a landmark in the history of Renaissance art. Commissioned by a wealthy Florentine silk merchant in the 1420s, the chapel was painted with frescoes by Masaccio and Masolino depicting the life of St. Peter and the theme of redemption.

In later years, the chapel suffered at the hands of the Florentine government when its patron, Felice Brancacci, was exiled and declared an enemy of the state. The "Damnatio Memoriae" was executed, and the faces of the chapel's patrons were destroyed, only to be restored by Filippino Lippi fifty years later. A disastrous fire in the late 1700's blackened the frescoes until they could hardly be seen; they were restored in 1981-90.

Masaccio's works, including the painfully expressive Expulsion from the Garden of Eden, have inspired the great artists of the High Renaissance, including Michelangelo. Your visit not only includes a chance to view these famous frescoes, but your own personal tablet to explain their history and restoration.

Please note that on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays, the entrance ticket to the Brancacci Chapel also allows entrance to the Fondazione Salvatore Romano which is located in Piazza Santo Spirito, a few blocks from the chapel.

This chapel is an interesting piece of art. Its frescoes are done by Masaccio and Lippi. It gives you a real feeling of the meeting between religious art and renaissance. Booking went smoothly and you get a multimedia guide explaining each panel (ID deposit required) with this voucher. Select Italy is one of the few and best operators offering this ticket.

Perfect efficiency in booking tickets through Select Italy. The experience of the Brancacci Chapel was cool and quiet, without the anticipated crowds. As near as one can imagine to recapturing the holy esteem in which these paintings were held when first painted.

First of all, the Brancacci Chapel is wonderful and the visit very rewarding. Secondly, the reservation (voucher) worked like a charm! I will definetly go this route again. Thank you.

When planning a trip for Florence, I researched a number of sites advertising bookings to major sites. Unfortunately, their claims were not backed up. I found Select Italy via a Google search and glad I did. The Brancacci was high on our list of places to see in Florence and Select Italy booked us for the date and time that fit our schedule with no problems. For anyone who enjoys Renaissance art, the Brancacci is well worth the visit and Select Italy made our visit very simple to book!

Masaccio's work marks a turning point in Western Art. The frescoes are fresh, and really breathtaking. His expulsion from The Garden of Eden - squeezed into an odd area - is, in my opinion, far superior to that in the Sistine Chapel. This is perhaps the only artist Leonardo da Vinci singles out by name for praise. Most moving for me was to observe that Masaccio had painted himself into a scene standing before St. Peter. He had painted in himself reaching out and touching St. Peter's cloak for good luck. Unfortunately, he died about three years later under mysterious circumstances at age 26. In a city where there are so many outstanding works of art, this place stands out as one of the best. The 15 minutes viewing time is really insufficient. The only thing that compared for me personally was to stand in front of Da Vinci's Adoration of the Magi in the Uffizi for about half an hour. No one else was around (mid December) and I got to have my "private audience" with the great man.
