Produced in the undulating hills of the Tuscan countryside between Florence and Siena, the famous Chianti Classico wine is known and celebrated all over the world. Tidy rows of vineyards set amidst historic villages and silvery-green olive trees are the scenic backdrop for this half day wine excursion to Chianti Country.
Departing from and returning to your Florence hotel, first stop is the town of Greve in Chianti with its picturesque, asymmetrical main piazza. It is lined by a succession of palaces, porticoes and loggias with the rebuilt church of Santa Croce at one end, housing beautiful Renaissance paintings from the School of Fra Angelico. At the other end of the piazza stands a statue of the explorer, Giovanni da Verrazzano, who discovered New York Harbor.
After a tour of Greve you'll head to the Casaloste Vineyards, known for their fine Chianti Classico and Riserva wines. A visit to the cellars and a guided wine tasting are included. Then you'll visit the cellars of the Setriolo estate in Castellina in Chianti to learn how grapes become wine; a guided tasting follows.

Tuscany Chianti Wine Tour was informative and provided a good break from the city. We learned a lot from our guide Marco about the grapes and loving care that goes into the Chianti Classico wines.
Our group of four were met by Angelo who said he would be our Angel for the Day. He had a great personality, was a very careful driver and took us to two very different wineries. The Casaloste was a small vineyard in the Chianti region and Villa San Andrea was a huge wine estate set on top of a hill with great panoramic views of the countryside. Both wineries provided a great selection of wines to taste. Angelo also stopped at the historic town of Greve which on Saturdays has an open market in the town square which we thoroughly enjoyed. This was one of the best days we spent in Italy on our two week trip.
Got back from Italy and had a great time. Monika was our guide on the wine tour and she made it very interesting. Not only were the vineyards and wine good, but she did an outstanding job with the history and was very helpful in pointing out local areas of interest.
We were so pleased with out Chianti Wine Half Day Tour. Our guide Barbara, who is a sommelier, did a wonderful job taking us through the Tuscan countryside, explaining the process by which Chianti and Chianti Classico are made, and making this tour one of the best days of our trip. We are so happy that we booked this tour and would highly recommend it.
My husband and I had a great time on the Chianti Nord Wine Tour. Our guide was exceptional. There is only one thing that we would change. We would have preferred stopping at 2 wineries which shipped to the US. We enjoyed our first stop at Casaloste, however, they did not ship their wine. We did purchase a couple of bottles and hoped that they would survive in our checked baggage. Thankfully, they did.
