Corso del Popolo, 128
The monastery of San Nilo lies at the cultural core of Grottaferrata. Founded in 1004, Byzantine-Greco liturgical practices are still carried out here today. There's an antique scriptorium where manuscripts were created while, in the middle of the last century, a printing press was installed for the production of liturgical books for the Eastern Church. The abbey is enclosed behind a 15th century wall punctuated by four soaring towers; Leonardo da Vinci's celebrated Codex Atlantico was restored here.
