For centuries, the people of Montecarlo and the beautiful surrounding villages have carefully worked the fertile, green fields of Tuscany. It is thanks to the efforts of these tireless "keepers of the land" that the beauty of Mother Nature has been so immaculately preserved here. Meet the people, tour the castles and villas and try some of the province's most exquisite wines on this half-day or full-day wine excursion.
First stop on the tour will be the picture-perfect medieval village of Montecarlo. It is incredibly well preserved and offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside from its hilltop castle. After a tour of this historic landmark, you'll drive 15 minutes to the tiny village of Tofori where the Fattoria Villa Maionchi has been producing wine and superior extra-virgin olive oil since the 17th century. A visit to the formal Italian garden that flanks the villa is followed a cellar tour and wine tasting of the estate's DOC Colline Lucchesi wines, both red and white, as well as a taste of their award-winning olive oil on Tuscan bread.
The red brick arches of Lucca's ancient Roman amphitheater make an evocative setting for Osteria Baralla, a restaurant that has been welcoming guests since 1860. After an ample lunch of local specialties (included in the tour price), your guide will reveal the secrets of this gorgeous, medieval city. You'll take a walk on top of the incredibly well preserved walls that completely encircle the town. These tree-lined walls are so wide that they have been converted into a jogging path and park overlooking the historic center. Final stop on the tour is the Terre del Sillabo Winery, situated in the Valfreddana outside Lucca, not far from the Versilia coast. Because of the soil characteristics and the very special microclimate, the farm is mainly oriented towards white grapes: Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The tour of the vineyards is followed by a wine tasting.

This was an AMAZING day trip! We enjoyed the scenery, winery and everything along the way. Montecarlo was small but very charming. Bring your camera and prepare to take a ton of pictures.
