Italy is a country of deep and old traditions, and\u00a0from region to region you will notice many differences<\/a>, but when it comes to big festivities like Easter there are notable similarities\u00a0from north to south. Pasqua<\/em>\u00a0is Italy’s\u00a0second most important holiday\u00a0after Christmas and if you want to know how Italian\u00a0celebrate it, all you need to know are\u00a0just 5 words. Yes, Italian Easter can be recapped and explained with 5 words that around\u00a0Easter time become buzzwords.<\/em>\u00a0You will hear them from Piazza Duomo<\/em> in Milan to Piazza Castelnuovo<\/em> in Palermo!<\/p>\n

#1. Uova di Pasqua<\/span><\/h2>\n

I’m sorry, I can’t start this list without\u00a0talking about food\u2026 Because you know,\u00a0for Italians\u00a0every celebration (okay… every day, if we’re being honest) is the perfect occasion to cook,\u00a0eat and spend time with your family, and Easter is not an exception! The uova di Pasqua<\/em>\u00a0(Easter eggs) are without a doubt Italy Easter’s symbol. They are egg-shaped piece of chocolate, that usually contain a surprise, wrapped in colorful, bright paper. Right after Carnival, grocery store shelving is\u00a0stuffed with uova di Pasqua<\/em> of every size, color and chocolate flavor. As a\u00a0child, I remember that Easter was as\u00a0exciting as Christmas, and I used to spend Lent receiving dozens of\u00a0uova di Pasqua<\/em>\u00a0from relatives and friends. I used to align them in my living room, from the biggest to the smallest, and patiently wait for Easter morning to unwrap them all and see what surprises they contain. Easter mornings were an explosion of silvery papers, untied\u00a0ribbons and chocolate… lots of chocolate! Besides the common uova di Pasqua<\/em> you buy in the stores, there are gourmet ones made by the pastry shops that are so beautiful that you feel bad eating them. So basically, if you are in Italy around\u00a0Easter time “uova di Pasqua” <\/em>will be the hot topic and after Easter the problem will be how to work off\u00a0all that chocolate<\/a>!
