Let’s meet Beth:
1. Name and What do you do at Select Italy
Beth Rubin – Manager, Custom Travel Planning.
2. What’s your favorite Italian destination?
There are so many. If I had to pick one, I would say the Langhe area of the Piedmont region. I dreamt about going there for years, and in a rare instance, it actually lived up to my expectations. What a great gem of food, wine and landscape.
3. Whom would you go there with?
That’s a secret :)
4. Which 3 things should never be missing from one’s luggage when traveling to Italy?
I always say, “as long as you have your passport and a pair of underwear, everything else is just gravy”… That being said, if I get a 3rd thing, I’d go with an ipod – I love having a soundtrack to my train rides.
5. What Italian food are you addicted to?
From my favorite restaurant, Trattoria Toscana, in Cortona – Fusilli alla Contadina. In fact, I would say that I am addicted to an entire meal there – the same meal I have been eating for the past 11 years: start with the bruschetta al pomodoro, with some of the best Tuscan olive oil, which drips down your arms as you are eating it, then move on to the aforementioned fusilli, then finish it off with their spectacular (but sadly, seasonal) tiramisu, which rates in my top 5 tiramisù of all time (and I am a snob about this).
6. Reveal us a secret about Italy! Food, shop, unique view, restaurant, your favorite T4T… Whatever, we are really curious!
I recently discovered that one of my favorite gelaterie in Florence, L’Angolo del Gelato, just off of Piazza Santa Maria Novella, which I had been frequenting for years because of their gelato alla cannella (cinnamon) also has arachidi (peanut) and was in complete heaven – peanut and chocolate gelato together – like a dream come true….
