Calling all West Coasters! After years of emails and phone calls between our Chicago and NYC offices with your homes across the nation, here is our chance to meet! Select Italy and Croatia will be packing our bags to leave our polar vortex-plauged cities and head to sunny LA the weekend of February 8 and 9 for the Los Angeles Travel and Adventure Show.
Widely known as the #1 series of travel shows in the United States, the LA installment of the Travel and Adventure Show will taking place at the Long Beach Convention Center from 10:00am to 5:00pm on February 8 and 9. Select Italy and Croatia will be ready and waiting in Booth 1043 to answer all of your Italian and Croatian travel questions and to present our new Wine Roads Experiences, week-long suggested itineraries that trace the properties of some of the most esteemed winemaking families of each country.
This completely novel project grew from a glaring hole in so many run-of the mill wine travel services, which include the customary 2-3 stops at “a typical winery” that you probably forget the name of even before you leave. Italian and Croatian wines aren’t about sipping a wine by yourself overlooking the valley; they are about family, friends, history, and culture, and to leave these aspects out of any wine-related visit is an oenological sin. So, instead of sending our clients on those “typical” visits, we went to the root of what wine is about: the people and places who make the wines.
In Italy, we paired with the most revered winemaking families to form week-long itineraries around the properties of just one family. This idea, which has never before been done, allows those who travel with us to experience the whole story of a family’s wine in addition to its fantastic qualities: who the family is, where they are from, the flavors of their earth, and the history of their home. The itineraries include stops at three of each family’s estates spread throughout Italy, guided tours and exclusive visits of the surrounding areas, and also take care of lodging and transportation needs.
Our Croatian Wine Experience collaborates with three families at the Saints Hills, Korta Katerina, and Grgic wineries, weaving the story of this stunning coastline through the vines of their estates on the Peljesac peninsula, overlooking the sparkling Adriatic Sea. The itinerary presents the significant grapes of the region, such as Dingac, Malvasia, and the native Zinfandel (did you know it is from Croatia and not California?)
while also introducing you to the culture and history of the remarkable cities of Split and Dubrovnik. This week of wine in Europe’s most up-and-coming travel destination gives a true of taste of Croatia, its people, and its history.
By now you’re probably on the edge of your seat wondering: Where do you go? Who are the families? Come to see us in the LA Travel & Adventure Show, Booth 1043, on February 8 and 9 to find out. For those who aren’t able to make it, click on the links beneath the recognizable and not-so-subtle pictures above for more information.
Ernest Hemmingway once said: “Wine is the most civilized thing in the world” – rich in culture with a capital and lowercase “c.” Where were your best wine experiences? Were they connected to or independent of the setting and place from which they came?
