Monteverdi began as a project by a Cincinnati entrepreneur who fell in love with the small, medieval village of Castiglioncello del Trinoro and took it upon himself to painstakingly restore this hidden wonder. Tucked away in the green hills of Val d'Orcia - just over an hour from Florence airport - and situated right in the promised land of the highly praised Tuscan red wine, the complex has emerged years later a refurbished medieval village.
Monteverdi Resort is a collection of three villas, a seven-room hotel, a restored 12th-century chapel and a farm-to-table restaurant. Each space including the guestrooms has been carefully thought and furnished with pieces from acclaimed contemporary artists by the Italian interior designer Ilaria Miani.
The hotel boasts four luxury guestrooms and three Suites, each with its own character. Locally sourced woods, Tuscan flagstone, granite and Carrara marble give each guestroom its own flair and style. One deluxe suite has a wood-burning fireplace for chilly nights as well as a large private garden in which to relax while enjoying the Tuscan sun. Another guestroom offers an unobstructed and incomparable view of Val d'Orcia. All rooms are equipped with the highest quality amenities such as complimentary high-speed WiFi.
The resort also offers a refined restaurant with its masterful chef, Paolo Colucco. Dishes are created with products brought back from the chef's daily trip to the local market along with the herbs, fruits and vegetables that are gathered directly from the property's garden. Local delicacies prepared at the restaurant include lavender risotto, flavored with lavender picked seconds before the dish is served, and apple and arugula salad.
Caffe' Monteverdi is the perfect place for a midday break or to sip an al fresco aperitivo at night, whether a freshly mixed drink, juice or glass of wine from the wide selection of varieties produced in the Val d'Orcia area.
The resort also offers an outdoor swimming pool and a state-of-the-art gym in addition to an on-site art gallery and weekly events. Relax by the pool and recharge, or wander through the village's rustic pathways. You can also experience the rich world of Tuscan wine by visiting the nearby towns of Montepulciano, Pienza and San Quirico d'Orcia, or for city people, a day trip to Siena is an easy car ride away.
