Badia a Coltibuono was built by monks of the Vallombrosan order as a meditation place during the 11th century, and it is still an ideal place to relax and disconnect from the modern world. This 1,000 year old abbey is an impressive property surrounded by 2,000 acres of fir woods. Eight rooms and apartments welcome guests: three in the former monks' cells and five apartments that host 3 to 7 people. Hearty Tuscan meals are served under a wisteria-covered pergola in fine weather, while guided tasting tours of the Chianti wine cellars and cooking lessons are a wonderful way to experience the best of Tuscany.
