Ars & Civitas, Inc. d/b/a Select Italy ("Select Italy") provides various products and services to you through its Website subject to the following terms and conditions ("Terms"). If you visit, use or shop at SelectItaly.com, you accept, and agree to be bound by, these terms and conditions. Select Italy may, in its sole discretion, modify the Terms without notice to you. Therefore, please continue to review the Terms when using the Website. By continuing to access and use the Website after the Terms have been modified, you are agreeing to such modifications. In addition, when using particular services or features, or when ordering products or services on the Website, you shall be subject to any posted guidelines or rules applicable to such services, features, products or orders that may be posted from time to time. All such guidelines or rules are hereby incorporated by reference into the Terms.

License and Site Access

Select Italy grants you a limited license to access the Website for your personal use but you may not download (other than page caching), modify it, or any portion of it. You represent that you are of sufficient legal age to create binding legal obligations for any liability you may incur as a result of your use of this Site. This license does not include any resale or commercial use of this site or its contents; any collection and use of any product listings, descriptions, artwork or designs or prices; any derivative use of this site or its contents; any downloading or copying of account information for the benefit of another merchant; or any use of data mining, robots, or similar data gathering and extraction tools.

You may not use any Select Italy logo or other proprietary graphic or trademark as part of the link without prior written permission. Additionally Select Italy documentation including, but not limited to vouchers, order notification emails, and tickets, may not be reproduced, transmitted or modified in any manner. When you visit the Website or send e-mails to us, you are communicating with us electronically. You consent to receive communications from us electronically. We will communicate with you by e-mail or by posting notices on this site. COMMUNICATION OF UNSOLICITED IDEAS

Select Italy is not seeking any unsolicited ideas, suggestions or materials relating to the development, design, or marketing of its Content ("Submission"). You represent and warrant to Select Italy, and accept responsibility for, the accuracy, appropriateness and legality of the Submission. You will not use a false e-mail address, impersonate any person or entity, or otherwise mislead as to the origin of the information. Any Submissions submitted by you to Select Italy through this Website shall be and remain the sole and exclusive property of Select Italy and may be used by Select Italy for any purpose whatsoever, commercial or otherwise, without compensation. Providing such Submissions shall constitute your representation and warranty that neither the Submission nor any content thereof is in breach of these Terms, and your assignment to Select Italy of all worldwide right, title and interest in and to all copyrights and other intellectual property rights in the Submissions. Select Italy is entitled to use, copy modify, disclose, distribute and make derivative use of any of the Submissions for any purpose without restriction, and without compensation to you.

Submissions delivered by or from you to this Website (whether via posting, electronic mail, or otherwise, directly or indirectly) shall not be considered by you to be confidential. Select Italy shall not be responsible for keeping such information confidential, and Select Italy shall not be liable for any use or disclosure thereof. You are fully responsible for the content of your Submissions (specifically including, but not limited to, reviews posted to this Website).

FORCE MAJEURE EVENTS

Select Italy, its agents, representatives, service providers and suppliers are not liable for any damage and/or delay due to "Force Majeure Events" including, but not limited to, acts of God, governments actions, war, hostilities, political unrest, riots, civil strife, industrial disputes, labor dispute, strike, natural or nuclear disaster, fire, theft, epidemics, sickness, equipment malfunctions or breakdowns, weather, quarantine, medical or customs regulations, technical or administrative problems with transport, closure of airports, breakdown of machinery, water shortages or any other occurrences beyond Select Italy's control. In case of a Force Majeure Event, Select Italy may, at its sole discretion, but shall not be obligated, to offer substitute services that, in Select Italy's sole judgment, reasonably replace the originally scheduled service. Select Italy shall not be responsible for any additional expense, omissions, delays, rerouting or acts of any governmental authority. In the event of a Force Majeure Event, no refund will be provided.

The Website and Content are provided on an "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT REPRESENTATION OR WARRANTY OF ANY KIND TO YOU OR ANY OTHER PERSON OR ENTITY. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL SELECT ITALY AND ITS RESPECTIVE SERVICE PROVIDERS OR SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INJURY, DEATH, LOSS, CLAIM, DAMAGE, ACT OF GOD, ACCIDENT, DELAY, OR ANY SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER BASED IN CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, WHICH ARISE OUT OF OR ARE IN ANY WAY CONNECTED WITH ANY USE OF THIS WEBSITE OR WITH ANY DELAY OR INABILITY TO USE THIS WEBSITE, OR FOR ANY INFORMATION OR SERVICES OBTAINED THROUGH THIS SITE, EVEN IF A PARTY HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

Select Italy shall not be responsible for any supplier's or service provider's breach of any warranty including, but not limited to, implied warranties of fitness for a particular purpose or of merchantability; nor shall Select Italy be responsible for any other wrongdoing of a service provider or supplier (including any liability in tort), as to any products and/or services available through this Website. Select Italy shall not be responsible for any failure of a supplier or service provider to comply with these Terms, nor for any failure of a supplier or service provider to comply with applicable government regulations or federal, state and local law including, without limitation, laws governing the sale, warranty and return of perishables. To the extent allowed by applicable law, you agree that you will bring any claim or cause of action arising from or relating to your access or use of this Website within one (1) year from the date on which such claim or action arose or accrued or such claim or cause of action will be irrevocably waived.

If, despite the limitation above, Select Italy is found liable for any loss or damage which arises out of or in any way connected with any of the occurrences described above, then liabilities of Select Italy or its service providers or suppliers will, in no event exceed, in the aggregate, the greater of (a) the fee or charge you paid to Select Italy in connection with such transaction(s), or (b) One-Hundred Dollars (US $100.00).

The limitation of liability reflects the allocation of risk between the parties. The limitations specified in this section will survive and apply even if any limited remedy specified in these terms is found to have failed of its essential purpose. The limitations of liability provided in these terms inure to the benefit of the Select Italy and/or its respective service providers or suppliers. Some jurisdictions do not permit the exclusion or limitation of liability for consequential, incidental or other damages. To the extent applicable law does not permit any specific exclusion or limitation to apply to you or these Terms, such exclusion or limitation shall be severed from these Terms.

INDEMNIFICATION

You agree to defend and indemnify Select Italy and/or its suppliers and service providers and any of their officers, directors, employees and agents from and against any claims, causes of action, demands, recoveries, losses, damages, fines, penalties or other costs or expenses of any kind or nature including but not limited to reasonable legal and accounting fees, brought by third parties as a result of:

  • Your breach of this Agreement or the documents referenced herein;
  • Violation of any law or the rights of a third party;
  • Your use of this Website; or
  • Your use of this Website for, or on behalf of, a third party.

NOTICES

Unless otherwise provided in these Terms, all notices, requests, confirmations, elections, waivers, determinations and other communications required or desired to be given in connection with these Terms shall be effective: (a) if given to you by e-mail addressed to your e-mail address on record at Select Italy if any, or, (b) if given to Select Italy then by e-mail addressed to admin@selectitaly.com, with a copy in writing delivered by any means to Select Italy, 303 W. Erie, Suite 410, Chicago, IL 60654 Attention: Manager, Administrative Services.

ARBITRATION

Any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be settled by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA"). The arbitration shall be heard by the AAA and determined by a single arbitrator with experience handling disputes in the travel industry. The arbitration proceeding shall take place in Chicago, Illinois, USA, each party shall bear its own costs relating to such arbitration, and the parties shall equally share the arbitrator's fees, and the arbitration and all related proceedings and discovery shall take place pursuant to a protective order entered by the arbitrators that adequately protects the confidential nature of the parties' proprietary and confidential information. Either party may, without waiving any remedy under the Terms, seek from any court of competent jurisdiction any interim or provisional relief that such party deems necessary to protect its confidential information and property rights pending the establishment of the arbitral tribunal (or pending the arbitral tribunal's determination of the merits of the claim).

JURISDICTION AND VENUE

These Terms shall be construed and governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, notwithstanding any conflicts of law principles. You agree to submit to the personal and exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located within Cook County, Illinois, USA.

MISCELLANEOUS

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and those terms and conditions incorporated herein or referred to herein, constitute the entire agreement between you and Select Italy relating to the subject matter hereof, and supersedes any prior understandings or agreements, whether oral or written, regarding the subject matter, and may not be amended or modified except in writing or by making such amendments or modifications available on this Website. Select Italy's failure to insist upon or enforce strict performance of any provision of these Terms shall not be construed as a waiver of any provision or right. Neither the course of conduct between Select Italy and you or any other party nor trade practice shall act to modify any provision of these Terms.

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, void or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, then such provision shall be deemed severed from these Terms and will not affect any other provision of these Terms, the balance of which shall remain in and have their intended full force and effect. The headings and titles of the sections of the Terms are not a part of these Terms, but are for convenience only and are not intended to define, limit or construe the contents of any such sections.


General Service Terms and Conditions

Bank and Credit Card Fees

Some banks and credit card companies impose fees for international transactions. If you are making a booking on a non-US bank issued credit card, your bank may convert the payment amount to your local currency and charge you a conversion fee. This means the amount listed on your credit or bankcard statement may be in your local currency and therefore a different figure than the figure shown on the billing summary page for a reservation booked on the Website. In addition, a foreign transaction fee may be assessed if the bank that issued your credit card is located outside of the United States. Booking international travel may be considered to be an international transaction by the bank or card company, since Select Italy may pass on your payment to an international travel supplier. The currency exchange rate and foreign transaction fee are determined solely by your bank on the day that they process the transaction. If you have any questions about these fees or the exchange rate applied to your booking, please contact your bank.

Payment

Payment is due at the time your order is confirmed which may vary by days or months depending on the availability of the service on the date you placed your order with us. All online booking requests must be submitted with a major credit card unless otherwise expressly stated. In any case, your credit card will not be charged unless the service(s) can be confirmed.

All prices shown are in US Dollars and are billed in US Dollars.

Price Fluctuations

Prices are subject to change without notice due to government imposed taxes or fees, currency exchange rates, last minute supplier increases, or other such unforeseen circumstances.

Select Italy has no control over any last minute price increases that museums, theaters, or other attractions may institute. Whenever Select Italy is notified of such an increase and you have already purchased an entrance ticket, we will make every reasonable effort to contact you. If you wish to maintain your originally scheduled entrance time, you will need to pay the additional fee. If you agree to the additional fee, we will charge the amount to your credit card. If you do not agree to the additional fee, we will cancel your reservation and issue a refund to your card of the original charge minus a $10.00 per ticket handling fee.

Refunds in General

Refund policies vary by type of service provided. The scope of each refund policy is described based upon the type of service provided. Also purchases made through the Select Italy on-line store are non-refundable.

Rush Service Fees

Unless otherwise noted, the following rush service fee applies when an order is placed five (5) or fewer business days before the service date:

  • Custom Travel Planning: $100 per order
  • Private Guided Tours: $50 per order
  • Private Transfers: $50 per order
  • Shared Guided Tours: $10 per order

The following fee applies when an order is placed three (3) or fewer business days before the service date:

  • Museums: $10 per order
  • Musical Events: $10 per order
  • Shuttles: $10 per order
  • Train tickets: $15 per order

Service Processing Time

Many services offered by Select Italy can be processed in one (1) business day and most can be processed in two to three (2-3) business days. Please note that in exceptional cases, some services may require more than three (3) business days to process. The status of an order can always be checked by logging into Select Italy's website, clicking the link provided in the order confirmation email, or contacting our Chicago office directly via phone or email. Orders are prioritized and processed based on the service date, not the order date. If an order is placed five (5) or fewer business days before the service date, it will be given processing priority.

Service Vouchers: Notice to Select Italy of Non-Receipt

If your vouchers have not arrived at least one (1) full business day before your departure from your home country, it is your responsibility to contact Select Italy so they can be resent. Failure to allow Select Italy sufficient time to re-send the vouchers could result in the loss or cancellation of the reservations, tickets or services listed on the voucher. Select Italy assumes no responsibility in such a case and no refunds will be provided.

Service Vouchers: Your Responsibility to Review Information

While Select Italy does all we can to verify that the information on your travel voucher(s) is complete and accurate, it is your responsibility to carefully read and review voucher(s) immediately when received. Failure to contact us in time to allow for the correction and re-sending of voucher(s) could result in the loss or cancellation of your reservations, tickets or services listed on the voucher. Select Italy assumes no responsibility in such case and no refunds will be provided.

Travel Documents and Passports

Each traveler is responsible for obtaining and carrying a valid and non-expired passport and any other documents required by government regulations. Select Italy strongly urges you to check with your local embassy or consulate for additional requirements prior to travel.

Failure to obtain the required documents is your responsibility and no refunds will be made on any services purchased from or through Select Italy.

Travel Insurance

Although most travel, including travel to international destinations, is completed without incident, travel to certain destinations may involve greater risk than others. Select Italy urges YOU to review travel prohibitions, warnings, announcements and advisories issued by the United States Government prior to booking travel to international destinations.

SELECT ITALY STRONGLY RECOMMENDS YOU PURCHASE TRAVEL INSURANCE FOR YOUR TRIP. YOUR TRIP REPRESENTS A SUBSTANTIAL INVESTMENT NOT JUST IN ITS COST, BUT IN THE TIME YOU'VE SPENT PLANNING FOR IT AND IN THE ANTICIPATION OF ENJOYING A WONDERFUL, CAREFREE VACATION. IF SOMETHING UNEXPECTED HAPPENS TO PREVENT YOU AND/OR YOUR TRAVELLING COMPANIONS FROM TAKING THE TRIP OR IF SOMETHING UNFORESEEN HAPPENS DURING THE TRIP, A TRAVEL INSURANCE POLICY WILL HELP TO PROTECT YOU AGAINST FINANCIAL LOSS AND ALSO ENABLE YOU TO HAVE ACCESS TO ASSISTANCE WHEN DEALING WITH SITUATIONS INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, A MEDICAL EMERGENCY, CANCELLATIONS, DELAYS, MISSED CONNECTION, LOST LUGGAGE OR STOLEN WALLET. TALK TO YOUR TRAVEL CONSULTANT OR CONTACT YOUR OWN INSURANCE AGENT PRIOR TO TRAVEL TO DETERMINE WHAT POLICY MAY BE BEST FOR YOU.

Individual Service Terms and Conditions

Chauffeured Transfers

Upon confirmation of your service request, you will receive a voucher specifying the pick-up time and location for your transfer, as well as contact information of the local company providing the service and contact information for Select Italy's Florence Representative.

If you anticipate that you will be delayed for any reason and will not be able to honor your scheduled pick-up time, it is your responsibility to call the service supplier at the provided phone number or, if they are not available, Select Italy's Florence Representative, or Select Italy's Chicago Office to alert the appropriate party to your delay. If it is possible, Select Italy will work to reschedule your pick-up time. Select Italy cannot guarantee that it can reschedule the pick-up time at the same price. Additional costs may be assessed.

In the event a delay is due to airline delay or to luggage pick-up, the service provider will wait up to forty (40) minutes past the reserved pick-up time. If you are waiting for your luggage in an airport and anticipate that you may be delayed, please contact the service provider as soon as possible to notify them of the change in pick-up time.

For pick up from a hotel, you must strictly adhere to the time listed on your service voucher, without exception. Drivers will wait free of charge for a maximum of 15 minutes from the stated pickup time. If the waiting time is longer than 15 minutes, additional costs will be assessed.

The price paid for the chauffeured transfer is based on the requirements outlined by you at the time of booking. The price will remain unchanged unless alterations are made by you to the journey itinerary after the reservation has been made.

For any alterations to a confirmed service such as change of pick up time, change in route and/or request for intermediary stops, you must contact Select Italy's Florence Representative, or Select Italy's Chicago Office at least 72 hours before the date of service. If such a variation is possible, additional costs may be assessed.

If you do not contact Select Italy as stated above and you request activities and/or intermediary stops directly from the driver on the day of the service, you give Select Italy your full consent to charge your credit card for any additional costs that may occur as a result of your request(s).

Consultation Service

Select Italy's $299 consultation fee is completely non-refundable and non-transferable. The consultation fee is not applicable to any other services purchased through Select Italy.

Culture Days and Culture Week Events

Each year the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities declares some periods when state museums charge a reduced admission or no admission fee. In particular, the Culture Days and the Culture Week are such events. Culture Week dates are often not announced by the Italian government until the last minute. Select Italy is not responsible for advance notification of this event nor is Select Italy responsible for any museum's change in reservation policy during these periods.

For any museum taking part in Culture Days/Culture Week, Select Italy will charge a $13.00 per person reservation fee. This fee includes the museum's reservation fee as well as Select Italy's service fee. Museums may also charge an admission fee in addition to this reservation fee. If a museum does not take part in Culture Days/Culture Week, Select Italy's standard pricing applies.

Payment and Confirmation

Once you have approved the final itinerary for your trip, Select Italy will make all reservations and confirm all services. Once all are confirmed, a 30% deposit is due. The balance of your trip must be paid no later than sixty (60) days prior to the departure date. Please note: the initial $100 deposit and any subsequent payments are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you choose not to confirm a full itinerary, the $100 deposit will not be refunded or applicable toward individual services.

Reservations are considered fully confirmed only when the final payment has been received. The total package price includes the selected services and arrangements and as such, is not itemized. Refunds after pre-payment are at the discretion of individual service providers/properties. Any change in the terms of confirmed reservation(s), including cancellation, may result in added fees.

Suppliers Independently Owned

Select Italy acts as an agent for carefully selected accommodations and service suppliers, all of which are independently owned and managed. Select Italy shall not become liable for any personal injury, property damage, accident, delay, inconvenience, change in accommodation /service or rates (due to exchange rate or property/service provider decision), or any other irregularity due to wrongful, negligent or arbitrary acts or omission on the part of the property(ies) reserved. By engaging Select Italy and making full payment, you agree to hold Select Italy blameless in making arrangements on your behalf and that any claims of damage, refund or credit after arrival shall be sought directly from the property/service provider.

Honeymoons

Actual cost will be provided to you after an initial consultation with a member of Select Italy's Wedding & Honeymoon Services staff.

Vacation Packages

Select Italy's vacation packages are not escorted group tours. Each package is a combination of services and products designed for the independent traveler who wishes to enjoy the freedom of an un-escorted trip with the convenience and value of a package price. Vacation packages do not include bus transportation, tour escort, or any service not explicitly listed in the "Package Includes" description.

Weddings

Our Wedding & Honeymoon Specialists will help you plan the wedding event of your dreams. As each wedding is designed specifically for you, our consultants make all the arrangements necessary to ensure this is a very special moment in your life.

The Italian and Croatian Governments require very specific criteria be met before they will permit a legally binding wedding to take place. While our Wedding consultant will advise you on these requirements, please note that it is your responsibility to collect the required documents and permissions.

Pricing Policy

Wedding packages include a variety of different services and as such, the wedding packages posted on the Website vary in price. The posted package prices should be viewed as a "starting rate." Actual cost will be provided to you after an initial consultation with a member of Select Italy's Wedding & Honeymoon Services staff.

Event Postponement

Modification of individual services within a confirmed wedding ceremony must be submitted in writing. Requested changes will be taken on a case-by-case basis and may be subject to additional fees. If, after booking a wedding ceremony and its corresponding activities and services, you decide to fully postpone the event, Select Italy will attempt to confirm the same arrangements for an alternate date. However substitutions may be necessary based on availability. Select Italy will charge you a $600 fee if a ceremony postponement is requested. You will be responsible for any increase in price resulting from the change of service, date or necessary substitutions made in order to complete the ceremony on a new date. You will also be responsible for fees charged by the individual service providers including, but not limited to, the celebrant, operator of the ceremony location, and florist as a result of the modification or postponement of the event.

Group Tours

In order for Select Italy to begin work on planning a group tour, a $300 advance payment is required. This payment will be applied to the final balance unless the tour is canceled, in which case it becomes non-refundable. In addition, the following payment schedule applies:

  • First payment of 20% of the trip's cost due upon confirmation of arrangements.
  • Second payment of 30% of the trip's cost due ninety (90) days prior to departure.
  • Final payment due sixty (60) days prior to departure.

Additional services and costs incurred by the group during the course of the tour but after final payment has been made will be invoiced upon tour completion.

Hotels

Select Italy acts as an agent for carefully selected properties, all of which are independently owned and managed. Select Italy is not liable for any personal injury, property damage, accident, delay, inconvenience, change in accommodation(s) or rate(s) (due to exchange rate or property decision), or any other irregularity due to wrongful, negligent or arbitrary acts or omission on the part of the property(ies) whose name(s) appears on the invoice. By engaging Select Italy and making full payment for the specified accommodation(s), you agree to hold Select Italy harmless in making arrangements on your behalf and that any claim(s) of damage, refund(s) or credit(s) after arrival will be sought directly from the property(ies).

Museums

You hereby authorize Select Italy to complete any purchase on your behalf within the indicated terms and you acknowledge and agree that any purchase made on your behalf is final and non-refundable.

All the museums Select Italy offers are independently owned and operated. Select Italy processes orders for museums in a timely manner. Usually, processing takes place within two (2) to three (3) business days. However, depending on which museum tickets are ordered and how far in advance you place your order, the time necessary to complete the order may vary. In general, the greater the number of museums requested, the longer the processing time. Also, different museums follow different procedures and not all accept orders more than one (1) month in advance. In such cases, orders are prioritized chronologically and processed when possible.

If your preferred date(s)/time(s) are not available, we will provide you with a booking close to your preferred times unless instructed otherwise. Though Select Italy will work to book your requested time, we reserve the right to book thirty (30) minutes before and thirty (30) minutes after your requested time. In the absence of alternative instructions from you, Select Italy's decision for booking times is final. You agree to provide us with all information and instructions in connection with your order, including any physical limitations, arrival date/time in town, time restrictions for visiting and any other applicable information, which may include your birth date and/or passport information when required by the museum.

Some museums offer an Advance Tickets Service (or similar), which provides for your entrance at a specific date and time. Select Italy's price includes that fee, Select Italy's service fee and, when available, the entrance ticket fee.

Music and Cultural Event Tickets

You hereby authorize Select Italy to complete any purchase on your behalf within the indicated terms and you acknowledge and agree that any purchase made on your behalf is final and non-refundable.

Select Italy does not always receive commission on ticket sales from venues. Therefore, to provide you with the choice of premier musical and cultural events, Select Italy's ticket price include: any pre-booking fees charged by the supplier (and not shown on the ticket's face value) in addition to the ticket's face value; maintenance of an up-to-date calendar of events; customer service; administrative order processing; and currency exchange rate fluctuations. Depending on the ticket source, pre-purchase complexity and the type of event, the quoted cost for tickets may be 30% higher than the ticket's face value. In cases where Special Ticket Booking applies (see below), Select Italy's additional fee may be higher than 30%.

Venues reserve the right to change their program without notice and, in most cases, do so without advance notice to Select Italy. While Select Italy will try to inform you promptly about unexpected changes of schedules, Select Italy is not responsible for any changes or cancellations made. These may include, but are not limited to, changes to program time, cancellation due to strike or poor weather, or substitutions of performers or program changes. In addition, Select Italy has absolutely no control over the type, style, length, historical period in which a production is set or any other artistic aspect of a show, opera, concert, reading or other program a venue may present.

The pricing on the Website does not guarantee availability of a ticket. If your first seating choice is not available and you provided alternate seating requests when you placed your order, then seating within your alternate category, if available, will be provided without additional notice to you. Should none of your choices be available, Select Italy will contact you with alternate seating (if available). No refunds are given for seating booked in alternate categories you provided when you placed your order. Seating in other than your first or alternative choices will not be purchased without your prior approval.

In most cases, you will be required to pick up your tickets directly at the box office on the date of the event, by showing the voucher and your passport. Select Italy will notify you if tickets can be delivered to your shipping address or hotel prior to the event in which case an additional shipping charge may apply.

Special Ticket Booking

In cases where performances are sold out for major venues such as Teatro alla Scala or Teatro La Fenice, Select Italy may be able to obtain tickets through a licensed Italian broker. Prices for these specially booked tickets include the ticket price, brokerage fees as well as Select Italy's service fee. In this case, tickets will be delivered to your hotel on the date of the production.

Papal Audience

Reservations for the papal audience require confirmation from the Vatican. If Select Italy cannot confirm a requested reservation, you will be notified and you will not be charged for the ticket. It is possible that Select Italy may not be able to confirm reservations until the day before the requested audience date. Therefore, it is essential that you provide hotel contact information, including the hotel's fax number or an email address to which you have access in Rome and from which you can print PDF documents. If you do not provide this information or if you are not able to receive a voucher, Select Italy is not liable for the failure to deliver the ticket or voucher. If the ticket or voucher is not delivered, you will not be charged. However, you will be charged a booking fee for the Audience Reservation based upon the number of people per reservation. The Audience Reservation Service fee is non-refundable.

You are responsible for contacting Select Italy's Chicago Office if you have not received the ticket or voucher at least one (1) business day prior to the requested audience date.

The Vatican may decide to hold an audience at the Pope's summer residence, Castelgandolfo. Venue changes may not be announced until one (1) business day prior to the scheduled audience. No refunds are provided for change of venue. The Vatican may cancel any or all reservations for a papal audience with or without prior notification. If Select Italy receives notification of such cancellation, Select Italy will contact you as soon as possible. For Vatican cancellations, Select Italy will refund the booking fee less a service fee of $10.00 per reservation.

Restaurant Reservations

Once confirmed, reservations are non-refundable and non-transferable. Select Italy is not responsible for the quality of restaurant service, food or presentation. Restaurants may change their menu and pricing without notice.

The cost of the meal must be paid on site at the restaurant in accordance with the restaurant's current pricing and payment requirements. Credit cards may not be accepted depending on restaurant policy. Select Italy charges $15 for the service of reserving the table.

If the preferred date(s)/time(s) are not available, Select Italy will work to book the reservation as close as possible to your preferred times unless you instruct otherwise. Select Italy reserves the right to book fifteen (15) minutes before and sixty (60) minutes after your requested time.

Shuttles

Rome, Civitavecchia and Venice Shuttles

Upon confirmation of your service request, you will receive a voucher specifying the pick-up time and location for your shuttle, as well as contact information for the local Italian company providing the service and contact information for Select Italy's Florence Representative. Same-day flight delays or baggage loss (and subsequent delay) do not need to be reported. The shuttle supplier will automatically accommodate you on the next available shuttle.

If you have next-day flight delays, including cancelled and missed flights, you must call Select Italy's Chicago Office or Select Italy's Florence Representative before your reservation time to alert the appropriate party to your delay. If possible, Select Italy will work to reschedule your pick-up time. Travelers will be accommodated on a space-available basis.

If you do not call the service provider prior to reservation time, and/or you are not able to be present at your scheduled pick-up, you will be considered to be a no-show. No-show clients are those who do not show up at the established place and time for any reason. No-show clients cannot re-schedule the service and must re-book the service at the full price.

Florence Shuttles

Upon confirmation of your service request, you will receive a voucher specifying the pick-up location and pick-up time for your shuttle, as well as contact information for the local Italian company providing the service and contact information for Select Italy's Florence Representative. All no-show clients will have their shuttle service cancelled and will be charged the full price. No-show clients are those who do not show up at the established place and time for any reason.

If your flight has been delayed, changed or canceled, you must call the emergency numbers provided on the voucher before your reservation time for any possibility of a change to the service. If the service change request is received less than twenty-four (24) hours before the original reservation time, you will be required to purchase new tickets.

If you have next-day flight delays or changes, including canceled and missed flights, you must call Select Italy's Florence Representative before the reservation time for any possibility of a change to the service. Service changes, both same- and next-day are not guaranteed. If the service change request is received less than twenty-four (24) hours before the original reservation time, you will be required to purchase new tickets.

Train Tickets

Select Italy acts as an authorized ticket re-seller for Trenitalia, which is owned and managed by the operator Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), a department of the Italian Government. Select Italy is not liable for any personal injury, property damage, accident, delay, inconvenience, change in service(s) or rate(s) (due to exchange rate or service provider decision), or any other irregularity due to wrongful, negligent or arbitrary acts or omission on the part of the service provider. By engaging Select Italy and making full payment for the specified service(s), you agree to hold Select Italy harmless in making arrangements on your behalf and that any claim(s) of damage(s) with Trenitalia will be sought directly from them.

Note that your seats are automatically assigned by Trenitalia and that Select Italy has no control or say over this policy.

Please note that orders can only be confirmed up to 120 days in advance. If you are traveling more than 120 days from today, please feel free to place your order through our site. We will provide confirmation once tickets become available.

Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel

Reservations for the Vatican Museum include prepaid entrance to the Museum and Sistine Chapel. Prices include the cost of the reservation, entrance ticket and Select Italy's service fee.

Orders can only be confirmed up to 60 days in advance. If you are traveling more than 60 days from today, please feel free to place your order through our site. We will provide confirmation once tickets for your chosen date become available. Your order does not guarantee a reservation. Reservations depend on availability. Confirmation of availability will be provided within 2-3 business days of your order (if tickets have been released).

All members of your party will be required to display proof of identification prior to entrance. The Vatican Museum reserve the right to deny entrance to any individual not adhering to their entrance rules and restrictions including, but not limited to, providing proper identification and conformance to its dress code.

Villa and Apartment Rentals

Additional Costs

Properties may assess additional costs for heating/air conditioning, telephone, and additional services not specified in the brochure. Note that the period in which heating is available in is subject to local regulations.

Arrival and Departure Times

You must arrive and leave according to the instructions on the voucher provided by Select Italy. If you are unable to arrive between these times, you must let us know as soon as possible.

Booking and Deposit

Once you have selected your property(ies), you must complete and sign the Booking Form and return it to Select Italy or your travel agent. Depending upon the property, you will be required to pay a thirty percent (30%) to fifty percent (50%) deposit by check or credit card upon written confirmation of the booking. No booking is finalized until Select Italy has received the required deposit. If you book through a travel agent, he/she may have similar requirements.

Care of Property

You are responsible for ensuring that, upon departure, the property is left in the same level of cleanliness and repair as it was upon arrival. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in cleaning charges being deducted from the security deposit as set forth below. Any loss or damage caused by you will be deducted by the owner from your security deposit as well. Linen is normally changed once per week.

Final Cleaning

You will be notified of any final cleaning fees at the time of rental. The final cleaning fee does not include excessive cleaning, the cleaning of the kitchen/kitchenette and the removal of trash, which are your responsibilities. If this has not been done, the owner or his/her representative will charge an additional amount to cover these costs.

Final Payment

Final payment is due no later than ten (10) weeks prior to the departure date. Select Italy will issue a confirmation to you or your travel agent upon receipt of the final payment. If Select Italy does not receive timely payment, your reservation(s) will be cancelled and any payment received will be applied to the cancellation charge(s).

Last Minute Booking

A last minute booking is one received less than twelve (12) weeks before departure. Once details have been confirmed to you either by phone or in writing, full payment will be due immediately upon confirmation of the booking.

Pets

The majority of properties do not accept animals. If you want to have a pet with you, please ask for information when booking. The presence of an unauthorized animal is grounds for immediate eviction without the right to any reimbursement or refund. If pet is accepted, an additional security deposit will be required.

Photography

Photographs taken in these properties cannot be used or sold without prior written authorization of the property owner.

Property Ownership

Select Italy does not own the properties and cannot be responsible for problems associated with the property including, but not limited to, lack of water, gas and electricity, mechanical systems, telephone service, poor quality roads, scorched lawns due to excessive sun, or the unavailability of the swimming pool and any related filter systems. Select Italy will use all reasonable efforts to work with the property owner to solve any problems as soon as possible but does not assume any liability regarding such problems affecting you or other members of your party.

Property Related Marketing Information and Brochures

While Select Italy works to include accurate details of the services in its marketing information, property owners and managers do change elements of the property without notifying Select Italy. As a result, the information may not be up to date. All references to the condition of the property or services must not be taken as statements of fact, but as statements of opinion.

Reporting Problems

If you have any problems during your stay you should contact Select Italy immediately. Failure to do so may reduce your right to possible refunds. If you leave or abandon the property before the confirmed departure date, without prior written authorization from Select Italy, you will not be eligible for a refund. Select Italy contact information and phone numbers are included on your voucher(s).

Security Deposit

On arrival at the property, in order to cover possible damage or loss, you will be required to pay a security deposit, details of which are normally given in the property's description. The deposit is payable to the owner or the key-holder, and must be in the form of a Eurocheque, traveler's check or cash (euros). The full sum is returnable upon departure, except as noted elsewhere.

Size of Party and Behavior

Property owners reserve the right to refuse admittance to any group if the number of persons arriving exceeds the number on the Booking Form or if the number in the group exceeds the maximum number the property can sleep, as set out in the relevant brochure description. No camping is permitted on the property grounds unless authorized in advance in writing. The person signing the contract is responsible for ensuring the lawful and appropriate behavior of each person in the party. Should any person and/or the party behave in a manner that is not acceptable by normal standards, the owner or their representative may ask all persons involved to vacate the property, in which case there will be no refund of any rental payment.

Swimming Pool

For properties with a swimming pool, the period during which the pool is open and available for use varies according to the property but is typically from June 1st to September 30th and is subject to weather conditions.


Change, Cancellation and Refund Policies

In General

Except as expressly stated in the cancellation policy for a particular service, any and all deposits and fees to Select Italy and its suppliers, and other amounts paid for the following including, but not limited to: events, restaurants, lodging, transportation, tours (whether or not escorted), and packages, are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Change and cancellation requests must be requested in writing and the date, when applicable, is calculated based upon when it was received according to Italian standard time.


Individual Service Related Policies

Air Tickets

Price Increases

I understand that the airline tickets or air tours I am purchasing are subject to supplemental price increases after the date of purchase due to additional charges imposed by a supplier or government. I acknowledge that I may be charged additional sums by Select Italy to offset increased fees, fuel surcharges, taxes, fluctuations in foreign exchange markets or any combination thereof. I hereby consent to any post-purchase price increases and authorize Select Italy to charge my credit card for such additional amounts.

Hazardous Materials Notice

Some everyday products, like aerosol spray starch, can be dangerous when transported on the aircraft in carry on and/or checked baggage. Changes in temperature or pressure can cause some items to leak, generate toxic fumes or start a fire. Carriage of prohibited items may result in fines or in certain cases imprisonment. Please ensure there are no forbidden hazardous materials in your baggage like:

  • Some Lithium batteries (e.g. Spares in checked baggage, batteries over a certain size)
  • Explosives/Fireworks
  • Strike anywhere matches/Lighter fluid
  • Compressed gases/Aerosols
  • Oxygen bottles/Liquid oxygen
  • Flammable liquids
  • Pesticides/Poison
  • Corrosive material

Additional Conditions

There are special exceptions for small quantities (up to 70 ounces total) of medicinal and toilet articles carried in your luggage, spare lithium batteries for most consumer electronic devices in carry on baggage, and certain smoking materials carried on your person.

Certain items are required to be carried with you onboard the aircraft. For example, spare lithium batteries for portable electronic devices and cigarette lighters must be removed from checked or gate checked baggage and carried onboard the aircraft.

Traveling with medical oxygen, liquid oxygen, mobility aids and other assistive devices may require airline pre-approval or be restricted from carriage entirely. Passengers requiring these items should contact the airline operator for information on use of such devices.

  • Once a ticket is issued, it cannot be transferred to a different passenger or airline.
  • All changes and/or cancellation requests must be made with Select Italy in writing prior to the originally scheduled flights.
  • Ticket may be non-refundable and may incur additional applicable airline fees.
  • Ticket changes may incur penalties and/or increased fares. However, some fares allow no changes, so please contact us to confirm.
  • Changes made to already issued tickets incur a change processing fee of $30 per airline ticket per person in addition to any airline imposed penalties/fees.
  • A cancellation processing fee of $75 per person per airline ticket is applied to canceled tickets in addition to any airline penalties.
  • It is soley your responsibility to obtain and have at check-in all valid passports, visas, or any other documents required for travel on your itinerary.
  • All passengers under the age of sixteen (16) must be accompanied by an adult eighteen (18) years of age or older depending on an airline's policy.
  • All tickets require you to check-in for you flight a minimum of 2-3 hours prior to your scheduled departure.
  • Your ticket may not qualify for frequent flyer mileage accrual. Please contact us to verify your ticket's eligibility.
  • If you "No-Show" on any segment or flight in your itinerary, then the remaining segments will be cancelled by the airline. The ticket may hold no value for future travel and no refunds will be given.
  • It is your responsibility to check with the airline directly prior to departure for any last minute schedule changes that may affect your itinerary.
  • Exact seat assignments are on a request basis only and on many carriers will only be assigned at time of check in.
  • Please review all flight and passenger details to ensure that all is correct. Any changes must be made within one (1) business day after payment is made, or all applicable penalties and fees to change or cancel may apply.

Chauffeured Transfers

All change requests received before vouchers are sent are free of charge. For changes, the following shall apply based upon when the change request is received:

  • Between the date of service confirmation and until seven (7) days prior to the date and time of service incur a $30 change fee.
  • Between six (6) days and until four (4) days prior to the date and time of service incur a change fee of 60% of the transfer price.
  • Received fewer than four (4) days prior to the date and time of service incur a change fee of 100% of the original transfer request and the full cost of the new transfer fee.

For cancellations, the following shall apply based upon when the cancellation is received:

  • Between the date of service confirmation and until seven (7) days prior to the date and time of service incur a 25% cancellation fee.
  • Between 6 days and until four (4) days prior to the date and time of service incur a 60% cancellation fee.
  • Fewer than four (4) days prior to the date and time of service is non-refundable.

Consultation Service

Cancellations must be received prior to the first consultation appointment. If proper notice is received prior to the first consultation appointment, you are eligible for a refund of fees paid less a $25 cancellation fee. If you terminate or cancel the consultation at any time after the first appointment, payments are non-refundable.

In the event of cancellation, deposit and final payments are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Honeymoons

You will be charged a processing fee of $50 for each change made once the booking has been confirmed and/or payment has been made to the supplier(s).

For cancellations, the following applies based upon when the cancellation is received:

  • Between the date of package confirmation and until thirty (30) business days prior to the date of departure, you will forfeit your deposit.
  • Between twenty-nine (29) and fifteen (15) business days prior to the date of departure, you will forfeit 60% of the package cost.
  • Between fourteen (14) and seven (7) business days prior to the date of departure, you will forfeit 80% of the package cost.
  • Six (6) or fewer business days prior to the date of departure, you will forfeit 100% of the package cost.

Vacation Packages

You will be charged a processing fee of $50 for each change made once the booking has been confirmed and/or payment has been made to the supplier(s).

  • Between the date of wedding package confirmation and until sixty (60) business days prior to the date of departure, you will forfeit your deposit.
  • Between fifty-nine (59) and forty-five (45) business days prior to the date of departure, you will forfeit the deposit plus 60% of the package cost.
  • Between forty-four (44) and thirty-six (36) business days prior to the date of departure, you will forfeit the deposit plus 80% of the package cost.
  • Thirty-five (35) or fewer business days prior to the date of departure, you will forfeit 100% of the package cost.

Excursions

All change requests received before vouchers are sent will be done at no charge. For all change requests received after vouchers are sent, a change fee of $50 per change plus additional fees, where applicable, will be assessed.

For cancellations, the following applies based upon when the cancellation is received:

  • Between the date of package confirmation and until fifteen (15) business days prior to the date of service, you will be charged a 25% cancellation fee.
  • Fourteen (14) or fewer business days prior to the date of service, you will forfeit 100% of the package cost.

Food and Wine

For Services Not Originating in the US

All change requests received before vouchers are sent will be done at no charge. You will be charged a processing fee of $50 for each change made once the booking has been confirmed and/or payment has been made to the supplier(s).

For cancellations, the following applies based upon when the cancellation is received:

  • Between the date of package confirmation and until fifteen (15) business days prior to the date of service you will forfeit 25% of the package cost.
  • Between fourteen (14) and three (3) business days prior to the date of service, you will forfeit 50% of the package cost.
  • Two (2) or fewer business days prior to the date of service, you will forfeit 100% of the package cost.

For Shared Services Not Originating in the US

All change requests received before vouchers are sent are done at no charge. Requests received between the date of service confirmation and until fifteen (15) business days prior to the date of service incur a change fee of $30. No refund will be issued for changes made fewer than fifteen (15) business days before the tour date.

For cancellations, the following applies based upon when the cancellation is received:

  • Between the date of service confirmation and until fifteen (15) business days prior to the date of service, you will be charged a 40% cancellation fee.
  • Fourteen (14) or fewer business days prior to the date of service, you will forfeit 100% of the service cost.

Reservations and pre-paid tickets are totally non-refundable. No refund will be issued for late arrivals or no shows.

For Services Originating in the United States

All change requests received before vouchers are sent will be done at no charge. You will be charged a processing fee of $50 for each change made once the booking has been confirmed and/or payment has been made to the supplier(s).

  • Two (2) or fewer business days prior to the date of service, you will forfeit 100% of the package cost unless the services is re-booked or transferred in which case you will be charged a fee equal to 50% of the services fees.

Group Tours

Any changes to the scheduled itinerary must be requested in writing and may result in additional costs and/or change fees.

Cancellations of an entire tour must be in writing. Penalties for trip cancellation are calculated based on the number of days remaining from the receipt of your cancellation until the tour start date.

For cancellations, the following applies based upon when the cancellation is received:

  • Between the date of package confirmation and until eight (8) weeks prior to the date of departure you will forfeit 25% of the tour cost per person.
  • Between seven (7) and four (4) weeks prior to the date of departure, you will forfeit 50% of the tour cost per person.
  • Three (3) or fewer weeks prior to the date of departure, you will forfeit 100% of the total tour cost per person.

Guided Services

All Private Guided Services

All Private Guided Services (Except for the Vasari Corridor, Vatican and Sistine Chapel Private Visits - see below)

All requests for changes received before the vouchers are sent will be done at no charge. For all change requests received after the vouchers are sent, you will be assessed a change fee of $50 for each change and may require additional fees for any required changes to museum entrance ticket(s).

For cancellations, the following applies based upon when the cancellation is received:

  • No matter when your cancellation request is received, if the tour includes pre-paid reservations and/or museum entrance tickets, these are totally non-refundable.
  • Between the date of package confirmation and until fifteen (15) business days prior to the date of service, you will be charged a 25% cancellation fee on the total cost of the tour plus any non-refundable reservations and/or museum entrance tickets.
  • Fourteen (14) or fewer business days prior to the date of service, you will forfeit 100% of the package cost.

Vasari Corridor Private Visits

Once confirmed, reservations for the Vasari Corridor Private Visit are completely non-refundable and non-transferable. Changes to a confirmed reservation cannot be made.

Vatican and Sistine Chapel Private Visits

Once confirmed, reservations for the Vatican and Sistine Chapel Private Visits are completely non-refundable and non-transferable. Changes to a confirmed reservation cannot be made.

All Shared Guided Services in Rome, Florence and Venice

No refund will be issued for changes made fewer than ten (10) business days before the tour date.

  • Fourteen (14) or fewer business days prior to the date of service, you will forfeit 100% of the package cost.

Hotels

Changes made to a booking after payment for the property has been made incur a processing fee of $50 per property.

If you cancel a booking, Select Italy will calculate the date your cancellation was received based on Italian standard time and you may be eligible for a refund provided you cancel before a property has been paid. In that case, a refund less a non-refundable $125 cancellation fee per reserved property will be paid.

No refund is available for cancellations made after a property has been paid or for reservations made in conjunction with additional items as part of Custom Travel Planning Services.

Museums

Once a reservation is confirmed, reservation and pre-paid tickets are totally non-refundable and non-transferable. A $15.00 per ticket change fee will be charged in the event that a change of date or time is requested on an already confirmed reservation, if such a change is possible.

If you fail to present a hard copy of the voucher and/or if you fail to meet the scheduled time/date of entrance no refunds will be granted. Refunds (minus a $10.00 per ticket handling fee) will only be provided in the event that, under unexpected circumstances, the museum is closed or on strike on the confirmed date(s).

Music and Cultural Event Tickets

There may be a time when a performance is cancelled because of a strike or other circumstance. Depending on the venue and whether or not you are in the performance city on the day of the cancellation/strike, the process to obtain a refund for your ticket(s) differs. Please note that in the event of a strike or cancelled production, Select Italy's additional booking/processing fee is non-refundable.

Before Your Departure to Italy

If a performance is cancelled before your departure date to Italy, we will make every effort to notify you of the cancellation and advise you on how to receive a refund. Depending on the venue's procedures, it may take up to nine (9) weeks for them to process the refund. As soon as Select Italy receives the refund, we will process it to your credit card.

While You Are in Italy

If a performance is cancelled while you are in the performance city, we will make every effort to notify you of the cancellation and advise you on how to receive a refund. You may be able to obtain a refund directly from the box office on the date of the cancelled performance or within the box office's indicated period of time for refunds. Any refund the box office issues will only be on the ticket's face value. You may also be able to exchange your ticket(s) for another date within the production's run.

Restaurant Reservations

In the event you want to cancel your restaurant reservation, you must contact Select Italy's Chicago Sales Office no later than Noon (US Central Time) Monday through Friday on the day of your reservation. On weekends and US holidays, you must contact our Florence representative no later than Noon (Italian Time). No reservation refund will be provided for cancellation.

In the event that you do not use your reservation and do not cancel as noted above, Select Italy will charge a fee of $60 to your credit card. This fee is non-refundable. If you are not on time for your reservation, the restaurant may cancel your reservation. In that event you will not be eligible for a refund.

Shuttles

Rome, Civitavecchia, Florence and Venice Shuttles

If a change request is not received at least two (2) business days prior to the confirmed service, it may not be possible to honor it. A $15.00 per order change fee will be charged in the event that a change of date or time is requested on an already confirmed reservation, if such a change is possible.

For cancellations, the following applies based upon when the cancellation is received:

  • Between the date of service confirmation and until ten (10) business days prior to the date of service, you will be charged a 25% cancellation fee.
  • Nine (9) or fewer business days prior to the date of service, you will forfeit 100% of the service cost.

Train Tickets

A change request must be received at least two (2) business days prior to the confirmed service or it may not be honored.

Changes to an already confirmed ticket will incur a change fee of 25% per train ticket per person plus a $15 handling fee per route (not per person).

Cancellation requests must be received no fewer than seven (7) business days prior to the confirmed service. Cancellation of an already confirmed ticket will incur a cancellation fee of 25% per train ticket per person plus a $15 handling fee per route (not per person).

Villa and Apartment Rentals

Villa and Apartment Rentals - You Change and/or Cancel

A fee of $125 per change will be assessed if, after booking your property(ies), you request a change to any of the details of a confirmed booking.

For cancellations, the following applies based upon when the cancellation is received:

  • Between the date of package confirmation and until ten (10) weeks prior to the date of departure you will forfeit your deposit.
  • Between nine (9) and six (6) weeks prior to the date of departure, you will forfeit 50% of the package cost.
  • Fewer than six (6) weeks prior to the date of departure, you will forfeit 100% of the package cost.

Villa and Apartment Rentals - Property Supplier Cancels

In the rare instance where a supplier changes or cancels a reservation, Select Italy will advise you as soon as possible. If Select Italy is unable to provide you with the property(ies) you have booked, Select Italy reserves the right to transfer you to a similar property(ies).

If the cost of the substitute property is less than your original booking then you will receive a refund for the difference. If, however, the cost is more, then upon your acceptance of the substitute booking, you agree to pay the difference. However, if Select Italy cannot book you at a substitute property or if you reject the substitute property, Select Italy will refund the amount you paid for the property, but Select Italy is not liable for any cancellation charges for any related travel arrangements including, but not limited to tours, services, events or other bookings.
