Noblemen in the "Eternal City"
Experience life in an authentic Roman historic palace
Region: Latium - Rome Nov. 11, 2009
play hotel video One of the things that always strikes me when I travel in Italy is how I'm constantly stumbling upon living remnants of the past. I do not mean museums, monuments or urban architecture - these define, of course, the entire country; rather, I refer to glimpses of lifestyles that are impervious to the incursions of modernity,  and so offer the possibility to experience the evocative atmospheres of times gone by.

That was my feeling when I was shown this rather unique residence in the center of Rome. Not more than a three-minute walk from the Spanish Steps, it gave me a certain frisson to enter the gate of a 16th-century Roman palace thinking, as I climbed the majestic stairway, that I could be staying in the same rooms where multiple generations of nobility resided and held court.

When I entered the bedroom of the larger apartment, I couldn't help revisiting the fabulous opening scene of John Malkovich's awakening in Stephen Frears' classic film adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons. The bedroom looks pretty much like the one in the 1988 movie and, as I was savoring the opulent interiors, I was thinking to myself that one could do worse than to play the Vicomte de Valmont for a few days...

I hope that you will enjoy the short presentation of this little secret of the Eternal City.  Should you want to learn even more, including  how to book it, please call us at 800-877-1755 for further information.
