My name is Justin and I am the Operations and Customer Service Manager.

2. What’s your favorite Italian destination?

My favorite place in Italy is Bologna. I spent time there as a student and love the vibrant and young atmosphere of the city. The food is amazing (it’s the birthplace of ragu’ alla bolognese), but watch your portions or your waistline will grow quickly! A highlight of the city is the Teatro Comunale where you can find many of the same singers as you would at La Scala but for a more economical price. After a night at the opera, Bologna also offers exciting nightlife, with a pub, bar, or discoteca for every style.

3. Whom would you go there with?

I would go with my friends and family. I would also go alone just to visit my Italian friends!

4. Which 3 things should never be missing from one’s luggage when traveling to Italy?

If you don’t speak Italian, a pocket dictionary is a must. Italians love it if you try to speak the language, and even attempting just a few words will open up a dialog and lead to new friends. Another must is a good digital camera with lots of memory. Every corner you turn has another monument, fountain, or beautiful building and you won’t want to forget any of it. Lastly, I think the most important thing you should bring to Italy is an open mind. Be prepared for cultural differences (like the break in the afternoon when everything closes) but instead of finding faults, try and look with a fresh perspective to understand why Italians might still do it that way. Try the traditional Italian dish that has the ingredient you don’t like because, who knows, you might find a new favorite meal!

5. What Italian food are you addicted to?

I love caprese. The simplicity of the dish is purely Italian. The natural flavors are allowed to co-exist without drowning them in sauce or lots of spices. A very close second is gelato. I can never pick a favorite flavor because so many are good, and also unique! But whenever I see a gelateria with kiwi flavor, it’s always my first choice.

Reveal to us a secret about Italy! Food, shop, unique view, restaurant, your favorite T4T…Whatever, we are really curious!

Trieste is not one of Italy’s top tourist attractions, but I really think that it merits a visit. It is a coastal town, but it is surrounded by mountains, so it is very scenic. The harbor is a major shipping destination, so you can pass time just watching the large ships come and go. The city was under Austrian control for a long time, so while the people are Italian through and through, the architecture has a much different feel than the rest of Italy. In particular, the Castello Miramare is a must see attraction. It is a splendid, white castle right on the edge of the Adriatic Sea. The waves crashing against the foundations of the castle are a great occasion to use the camera you were sure to pack!
