1. Name and What do you do at Select Italy?
My name is Amalia and I’m an intern at the New York City office.
2. What’s your favorite Italian destination?
Italy is definitely one of the most complete countries ever: geologically, physically and culturally speaking. I was born up North, but I grew up in the South, which is the part of the country I like the most. I love the weather, the sea, the food, the traditions and especially the people from the South. I’m not going to say anything about Naples, since it’s a big and well known city, I would like instead to say something about Cilento, located in the South of Campania region, right before Calabria.
3. Whom would you go there with?
I would go there with my family, I always do actually, I’ve spent part of my summers there since I was a baby!
4. Which 3 things should never be missing from one’s luggage when traveling to Italy?
I would bring comfortable shoes, sunglasses and a bathing suit…no matter what time of the year you’re going there, you really never know when you’d have the chance to swim in Italy, I’ve been swimming in November too!
5. What Italian food are you addicted to?
Pizza: the only, real and unique Neapolitan pizza! Light, thin crust, and made with the freshest ingredients our beautiful country can offer, such as tomato, mozzarella and basil, pizza is definitely my favourite Italian food.
I’m going to have to spend some words about mozzarella too though, and especially the kind of mozzarella from the Battipaglia area. Made out of buffalo’s milk, this kind of mozzarella is famous all over the world, and it is one of a kind type of cheese. Worth a try…worth a trip to Italy actually!
Reveal to us a secret about Italy! Food, shop, unique view, restaurant, your favorite T4T…Whatever, we are really curious!
Let’s focus on the “food topic”: the location is Naples and the best secret I can tell you about it is definitely regarding Pizzeria “Starita a Materdei” (http://www.pizzeriastarita.it/)!Opened in 1901, this pizzeria slowly became a trattoria (a small restaurant with a restricted food choice) at the end of the 40s. In 1954 it was chosen as main location for the famous Italian movie “L’Oro di Napoli” with Sophia Loren. Starting from that moment it became a real traditional pizzeria, keeping its original architecture, but becoming more and more popular than any other pizzeria in the city of Naples!
